Discovery Experience 1 - You Call This a Robot?Robotics Learning Objective: The students will learn how basic parts of a robot work by building a robot using either a (1) Lego robotics kit, (2) a VEX robotics kit, or (3) other material.

Day 1 - Background

Materials and Resources Needed:

  • Lego robot kit
  • Building instructions for “LEGO MINDSTORMS Education NXT Base Set”


Procedure:

  1. Students Build a Lego robot from a number of design options
    • Instructions from “LEGO MINDSTORMS Education NXT Base Set”
    • Another good option is: Domabotics-1
    • A third option is: Domabotics-2
  2. Lecture with students on computers: Programming
  3. Teacher shows how to do basic programming while students follow along and make the robot (1) go forward (2) turn (3) stop
